EOC Week 2: Three Examples of Questionable Ethics

Ethics is a huge line that sometimes gets crossed in advertising. These are the ads that you look at and think why is the ad still being ran and who is allowing it. The first ad that I tend to think about when it comes it ethics is the fashion junkie ad. This is an ad in which there are two women in which it looks like they are about to do a line of cocaine. In little lettering it then says fashion junkie at first it is hard to make out that what appears to be drugs is in fact a dress. The two women look like fashion models and just plays in to the thought that models do not eat and only do drugs. Another ad is one for Tom Ford in which the ad is selling perfume. This sounds like there would be nothing unethical about selling perfume, but Tom has found that spot and has hit it in its head. The fact is that there is a women naked holding the bottle over herself to cover her private parts. I think that it is crazy that it has come this far when trying to sell products. Imagine if a child ran across the ad on accident what type of questions that you may have to answer. The last ad that I picked was a puma ad. This ad shows what it look like a girl giving a guy oral sex. When has selling sports-wear come down to what look like children having sex in a bathroom. To add to the effect of the girl giving oral sex the ad also features what looks like ejaculate on her leg. I feel that advertising is met to push some buttons and make a craze good or bad about a brand. Also when saying that when have we gone too far? I feel that these three examples are great in showing bad ethics in the advertising world.
